CASE STUDY: Gold Road Resources

Mining and Industrial photography Perth

Gold Road Resources describe their company as a mid-tier Australian gold producer and explorer with mine and exploration projects in Western Australia’s north-eastern Goldfields.

They contacted us to see if we could help them with generating some high-quality images for use internally, online and for marketing purposes.

Mining photography

Imagepro was contacted by Gold Road to conduct ground level photography, aerial drone photography and videography as well as suppling HD video content of two of their sites. Firstly, at their primary site, Gruyere and at their Yamarna site, situated 200km east of Laverton in Western Australia. The initial brief from the client was simple. To capture a wide range of images of site operations and the onsite staff. The images were to be used primarily for use on the Gold Road Resources website. The photographs would also be utilised for other applications including an annual general reports and internal catalogues.

Industrial Photography

As with most mining operations there are many protocols that need to be factored into each photography assignment:

  • Transportation of equipment and personnel
  • Health and safety considerations such as hi-vis clothing and personal protection equipment
  • Appropriate certification and insurances as well as Police clearances.
  • Medical compliance, including drug and alcohol screening which is a mandatory part of operational compliance on all mine sites

Compliance

At Imagepro we only use qualified and trained photographers. We also understand that personnel travelling to mine sites or remote locations need to be fit, healthy and ready to undertake the specified shooting schedule. Furthermore, all of our aerial drone pilots are CASA certified and fully insured. Once we received the finalised shooting brief from our client at Gold Road Resources. We were able to fulfill all of the necessary compliance protocols quickly and efficiently and to their satisfaction. Copies of all required documentation was emailed quickly

Location photography and aerial drone

Our Perth based photographer and drone pilot was flown to site and spent several days photographing site operations and capturing the required images and footage. This meant walking around various site locations. Interestingly, distances of up to 28 km’s were covered in just one day! So, fitness and stamina are also part of the physical attributes our photographers need to have.

Photography capture was done both during the day and at night and all personnel participated in early morning pre-starts. Fitting into the mining operations schedule is a vital part of being a mining and industrial photographer and all Imagepro employees are willing to participate in this regard. We understand that socialisation and positive, constructive communication is an important part of mining life.

High quality images

Finally, we provided our client with over 250 images. The photographs were a mixture of documentary style images of the mine site locations and personnel as well as aerial drone shots. Interestingly, drone shots are always well received by all of our clients as they add another layer of quality to company image libraries.

On completion, the client was ‘very satisfied’ with the results and was very complimentary regarding the images our photographer and drone pilot had captured. Commenting that the photographs captured during the visit ‘are being used everywhere’. Subsequently, Imagepro has been re-commissioned for several other projects for Gold Road Resources. Including a special visit to their Yamarna site to document the NAIDOC celebrations in 2022.
